“Claws” showrunner and exec producer Janine Sherman Barrois is staying put at Warner Bros. Television. She’s signed a new, exclusive multi-year overall deal with the studio, Deadline confirms. The pact sees her continuing to run TNT’s crime dramedy “Claws” — which is produced by WBTV’s Warner Horizon Scripted Television — and developing new projects for WBTV.
Sherman Barrois signed on to “Claws” during its pilot stage as part of her previous overall deal at WBTV. The Niecy Nash-starrer centers on women working in a nail salon who become involved in money laundering. “Claws'” first season concluded in August 2017 and “was a breakout for TNT, ranking as its highest rated series in the adults 18-49 demographic,” the source writes. A trailer recently dropped for the show’s second season, which kicks off June 10.
A graduate of the Warner Bros. Writers’ Workshop, Sherman Barrois’ other credits include “Criminal Minds,” “ER,” and “The Jamie Foxx Show.”
“Like anyone, I’ve faced challenges when going for top tier opportunities but I’ve learned to allow my talent to teach for myself,” Sherman Barrois has said of being black in Hollywood. “But what I can say is that the landscape has evolved and horizons have broadened. Great, diverse content is now being produced more than it was 10 years ago.” She emphasized, “Now that I’m at a point where I’m assembling my own teams, I’m aware of how important it is to have an inclusive approach to make for better shows.”
