Sharon Horgan is continuing her reign as Queen of TV. Per The Sydney Morning Herald, the “Catastrophe” actress/co-creator’s production company, Merman, is producing “Frayed,” a new comedy series for UK’s Sky and Australia’s ABC. Starring and written by Aussie comedian Sarah Kendall, the six-episode series will see a London housewife return to her Australian hometown and dysfunctional family. The show is set in 1989.
Guesswork Television, the producers behind Hannah Gadsby’s groundbreaking comedy special, “Nanette,” will produce alongside Merman. Matt Passmore (“McLeod’s Daughters,” “The Glades”) is also set to star.
“Frayed” is expected to air in 2019. Sky Vision will oversee international distribution.
“I just wanted to visit my family in Newcastle but I ended up shooting a six-part comedy here for the ABC and Sky,” Kendall joked. “I’m incredibly excited to be given this opportunity. And I also love free flights.”
“We can all relate in some way to complex family drama, which is at the heart of this ingeniously written comedy,” said Sky’s head of comedy, Jon Mountague. “Sarah Kendall is an exceptional lead and I’m excited to add ‘Frayed’ to Sky’s line-up of original British comedy in 2019.”
“’Frayed’ is among the funniest, but also most moving, pieces I’ve ever had the pleasure to work on,” agreed Rick Kalowski, ABC’s head of comedy.
In addition to her standup, Kendall has starred in and written for sketch comedy series “Beehive.” She’s also appeared in the Horgan-co-created UK motherhood comedy “Motherland,” which made its U.S. debut earlier this year.
Horgan currently has bunch of projects on her plate. She’s in the middle of filming “Military Wives,” a pic about military spouses who bond through choir, and working on two series: “Happy AF” and an untitled Amazon project. She created “Women on the Verge” with Lorna Martin, and also stars. The show is currently airing its first season in the UK. Season 4 of Horgan and Rob Delaney’s “Catastrophe” will hit Amazon sometime next year. Horgan is also attached to make her feature directorial debut with sci-fi-esque love story “The New World.”
