At just 20 years old, Elle Fanning already has over 50 credits to her name. The prolific actress and producer is set to be honored by Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival for her ever-expanding body of work. A press release announced that the fest will bestow its highest honor, the Maverick Spirit Award, to the “Mary Shelley” star.
Cinequest is also hosting a conversation with Fanning and screening her latest pic, “Teen Spirit,” a drama about an aspiring singer living in a small town.
Previous Maverick Spirit Award recipients include Rita Moreno, Rosario Dawson, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
“The Women’s Marches, and the talk about feminism and all that’s going on, it’s very powerful, especially in the industry right now,” Fanning has said. “It’s also very special to be a young woman and have examples of older women who are in Hollywood, or in this world, that I now get to look up to. I feel like I have big shoes to fill.”
Mélanie Laurent’s “Galveston,” Reed Morano’s “I Think We’re Alone Now,” and Sofia Coppola’s “The Beguiled” are among Fanning’s recent credits. Her upcoming projects include “The Great,” a Hulu series about Catherine the Great that she’s also exec producing, and Sally Potter’s “Molly,” a drama about a father and daughter.
Fanning will accept her honor at Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival on March 17.
