Eva Longoria and writer-comedian Grace Parra Janney are collaborating on an ABC comedy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Parra Janney is writing a family comedy “inspired by her own Mexican American family in Texas” for the network, and Longoria has been tapped to direct the potential pilot. Longoria’s company, Unbelievable, will exec produce.
From 20th Television, where Unbelievable is under an overall deal, the multigenerational series “focuses on an upper-middle-class family handling grief, identity, and a reevaluation of their roles following the death of the family’s patriarch,” THR summarizes.
Mentioning that she and Parra Janney both hail from “similar ‘Texican’ backgrounds,” Longoria said, “At Unbelievable we are always pushing to tell real and authentic stories, so I’m particularly proud to share one that is not unlike my own family’s experience.”
“Sylvie’s Love,” “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” and “Flipped” are among Longoria’s more recent screen credits. The “Desperate Housewives” alumna has directed episodes of “Black-ish,” “Jane the Virgin,” “The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia,” and more, and counts “Devious Maids” and “Grand Hotel” among her producing credits. Her packed slate includes appearing in anthology film “Women’s Stories” and directing a biopic of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos creator Richard Montanez.
Parra Janney has been a contributor on “The Nightly Show” and written for “Broke” and “Glory Daze.” Also an actress, she has appeared in “BoJack Horseman,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Superstore,” and “Master of None.”
