Jessica Alba to Topline Mouly Surya-Directed Netflix Thriller “Trigger Warning”

Alba in "L.A.'s Finest"

Set to reprise her role as a police detective and Navy veteran in “L.A’.s Finest’s” second season, Jessica Alba has signed on to play a vet in another action story. The “Dark Angel” alumna will topline “Trigger Warning,” a Netflix pic helmed by Mouly Surya. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.

“Trigger Warning” tells the story of a “traumatized veteran (Alba) who inherits her grandfather’s bar and faces a moral dilemma after learning the truth behind his untimely death.”

Surya’s latest film, “Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts,” made its world premiere at the 2017 edition of Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and was selected as Indonesia’s foreign film Oscar submission. Her other credits include “What They Don’t Talk About When They Talk About Love” and “Fiksi.”

“The best advice [I’ve received] came from female lecturer in my film school,” Surya shared in an interview with us. “She told me that I should focus on pursuing directing in my next semester rather than what I did that semester which was to help my other friends make their own projects. She said that there are so few female directors so we had to fight harder and be much more selfish.” The worst advice she was given, which came early in her career, was that she “had to choose between making art-house or commercial projects.” The writer-director explained, “I don’t think most filmmakers get to choose —  it is kind of like being chosen for them naturally because of their own personality and insights, and both can be either good or bad.”

The second season of “L.A.’s Finest,” an offshoot of the “Bad Boys” franchise, debuts on Spectrum June 8. Alba exec produces alongside co-star Gabrielle Union. The “Sin City” actress will explore approaches to parenting from around the world in “Parenting Without Borders,” a Disney+ documentary series that she’s set to star in and exec produce.
