Margot Robbie is going into business with Amazon Studios. The Oscar-nominated actress’ production company with Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, LuckyChap, has signed a deal to “create television projects that will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video,” Variety reports.
“We are so thrilled to be partnering with Amazon Studios to bring original content to the ever-burgeoning television landscape,” Robbie, Ackerley, and McNamara said in a statement. “Our hope with LuckyChap has always been to challenge narrative conformity whilst offering a platform to exciting and often over-looked voices. In Amazon we have a cultural partner who shares our passion for storytelling and through its global reach allows us and our collaborators to reach as many viewers as possible. This is the start of a very exciting journey for the company and one that we are incredibly proud to be taking with the wonderful Amazon team.”
Albert Cheng, COO and co-head of Television for Amazon Studio, praised LuckyChap’s track record of “sharply original, smart, and wholly engaging content over the past several years, across an incredible range of genres, and centering multifaceted, unique female characters.”
LuckyChap’s credits include Tonya Harding biopic “I, Tonya,” which scored Robbie a Best Actress in a Leading Role nomination at the 2018 Oscars, and “Dollface,” a Hulu comedy series led by Kat Dennings. Its upcoming projects include Emerald Fennel’s “Promising Young Woman,” a revenge drama starring Carey Mulligan that will be released December 25, and a live-action “Barbie” pic that Robbie will topline and Greta Gerwig will direct.
Robbie received an Oscar nod earlier this year for “Bombshell.” “Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn” and “Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood” are among her other recent credits.
