Trailer Watch: Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte Are Back in “And Just Like That…”

"And Just Like That...": HBO Max

The more things change for the women of “Sex and the City,” the more they stay the same. The trailer for the much-anticipated “SATC” revival, “And Just Like That…,” catches up with three of the original series’ quartet of sex positive New York women: Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis). They are still each other’s support system, still with their partners (Big, Steve, and Harry, respectively), and still navigating sex and the city. But they also have new friends, and new problems, such as raising teenagers and dealing with the body image issues that come along with aging.

Carrie also seems to have updated her methods of “sexual anthropology” for the 2020s. The columnist guests on a podcast called “X, Y, and Me,” hosted by Sara Ramirez’s Che Diaz, and explores the pitfalls of dating apps with new friend Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury). “I’m just waiting for someone to create a dating site that’s called ‘Here’s the Man You’ve Been Searching For, Seema,'” Carrie’s pal laments in the spot.

As was the case on “SATC,” the main characters of “And Just Like That…” seem to be searching for happiness, whatever it may look like, and making peace with their decisions. “There’re always going to be roads not taken,” as Miranda puts it.

Parker, Nixon, and Davis are among “And Just Like That…’s” executive producers. Nixon is also on the directing roster, as are Gillian Robespierre (“Obvious Child”), Anu Valia (“Never Have I Ever”), and Nisha Ganatra (“Late Night”). The writers include author and “Shrill” alumna Samantha Irby.

“And Just Like That…” premieres December 9 on HBO Max.
